Riverside Campground Projects

The Riverside Institute buildings and grounds were busy with people doing donations, maintenance and improvements as in the past years. The pathway was redone to the tabernacle from the south end of the campground, removed the rotten rails along the outside of the tabernacle, installed new LED lights in the Library and by the Rec Hall, and of course cut and removed trees accordingly per their danger levels and what had fallen from storms. All efforts from those on the grounds to make it the beautiful place are greatly appreciated.

The future is always looking bright as well with people still coming to me every time I am there walking around with thoughts and ideas. I know Marnie is now helping and trying to save any archive photos, documents and items to even possibly expand the museum.  I know you all have your fond moments and memories of what Riverside is all about. If you have anything that might be of interest to her, I highly recommend making copies or attempt to get them to her.  It would help us keep the memories of the past going as well as the wheels of ideas turning. Again, all your hard work, dedication and assistance will get useven more moments and memories to add to our collection. Hope to see everyone get to enjoy the campground this year!!

A note from your Cottage Owners' President                                                     May 18th, 2018

Dear fellow Riparians,

As another camp season quickly approaches, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the past year and get feedback about what we would like to do this season.

I am pleased, to say that we were able to fulfill some of our objectives stated in the bylaws. We had well attended potlucks and started an activities fund. The cottage owners purchased a projector for showing movies. In conjunction with Buildings and Grounds, we held a formal movie night in the Recreational Hall, showing Little Mermaid. It was raining so hard that day that we could barely hear it. For those who were there, it felt like we really were under the sea.

From fall to spring we didn't host formal events, however there were more people around than I remember seeing in past years. It was a great year for hiking and skiing. Also brutally cold. It has been a long, long winter and we are all very much looking forward to summer.

This year I would like to see more organized potlucks, field games, movie nights, sunset hangouts and much more. Please contact me if you would like to organize or volunteer at an event.

I think a photo contest would be a great way to bring people together regarding something we all hold dear, the beauty of Riparius. Maybe the winner could have their photo hung up in the boarding house. We could ask the RELI Board at our next meeting, this Memorial Day Weekend, for permission to hang a framed photo. Another great activity I would love to see would be a historical walk through the campground.  There are countless things we can do to encourage communal environments, multi-generational engagement and historical knowledge.

There is 150 dollars in the activities fund for whatever the activities committee would like to do. That includes more gear for movie nights, ice cream for ice cream socials, framing pictures for photo contest, etc.

The activities planning committee needs volunteers. Please contact me if you are interested in coming up with ideas and executing them. Let us fill up the calendar and get this season rolling now. If we want to ask the RELI board anything this is the time to figure it out.

Contact me at 518 791 8642 via calling or texting. Feel free to email me or contact me through the website, riversideCOA.com password riverside2017

I look forward to seeing all of you soon.

Movie and Popcorn Night on Friday June 30th was a huge success.

Five kids and 10 adults attended Little Mermaid. It was the perfect use of our new  projector on a rainy summer evening. Thank you to those who helped clean up the Rec Hall and thanks to Kevin Brown for opening up the Boarding house so that we could use the bathroom.

A Note from Building and Grounds

Riverside Campground Projects

The Riverside Institute buildings and grounds are always busy with people doing donations, maintenance and improvements. In the past two years or so since becoming buildings and grounds superintendent  we have replaced roofing on the tabernacle, pressure washed and painted the Burnett Rec Hall (thanks to the Burnett Family for donating supplies) and there was also painting done on the porch of the library (thanks to the Bishop Family and their efforts).  The Bob Lerner Fund paid for the install of new stairs for easier access to the rest rooms at the boarding house. There is just some minor work (staining, polyurethane) there to complete that job (nice job Scott). We recently have received enough donations to cover the cost of tree removal of the large tree next to the Rec Hall along the roadside as well.

The future is looking pretty bright as well with people coming to me every time I am there walking around with thoughts and ideas. The biggest comments I hear a lot and love/hope we can accomplish is getting the institute back to the way they remember it as well as expanding for the future. I know I remember it a certain way when I was younger and am sure you all have your fond moments and memories of what Riverside is all about. A community working together!!  So let us keep the wheels of ideas turning and the hard work, dedication and assistance going and we will get even more moments and memories to add to our collection.
